One of the cool things about our microswitches is the amount of customization we can do. One part of the switch we can customize is the trip and reset length. The trip length is how far down the switch is pushed before is triggers, while the reset length is far down the switch is when it goes back to a normal state. A few years ago, we had a company that needed the trip and reset length of a microswitch to be very precise. You can see from the drawing below that they needed precising down to the thousandth of an inch.
To measure length so precise with accuracy, we use something called a caliper. A caliper is capable of measuring to the thousandth of an inch, giving a high degree of precision. We alter the bend on the center blade inside the switch until we get the trip and reset point within the specifications called out in the drawing.
